Big Productions, Big Price Tags, Big Challenges
It’s a statement that is true for any theatre. Each season Theatre Harrisburg presents several large scale productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver!, The Full Monty, The Secret Garden, just to name a few. These are wonderful shows. Exciting shows. Popular shows. And expensive shows.
Did you know the cost alone to secure the rights to produce a musical like Oliver! can be almost $10,000? Add to that costumes, scenery, orchestra, as well as indirect costs for things like advertising, insurance, staffing, etc. The expenses can go on and on, often before the first ticket is sold.
So what does this mean? Quite simply, it means that from time to time our financial situation is less than desirable. Financial challenges are something that both the staff and board work very hard to anticipate and address.
But one thing is always kept in our minds. You -- our family. Our patrons, volunteers, actors, sponsors, advertisers. Our cheerleaders. Theatre Harrisburg is here to entertain, educate and engage you -- and has been since 1926.
2006-2007 marks our 81st season and we make this promise to you; continue to support us by purchasing tickets and subscriptions, making donations, sponsoring shows and volunteering and we will continue to bring you the best live theatre in the mid-state. We know you enjoy our shows, we know you want us to be around for another 81 years and we know we can count on you to be there for us.
